Verena Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor's documentary De Humani Corporis Fabrica, one of the most unforgettable films I've seen in recent years, releases on blu-ray and DVD this weekend. When the film was released theatrically earlier this year, the challenge of creating the theatrical one sheet was taken up by our friend Midnight Marauder, and the result is a haunting, severe composition that’s one of my favorite movie posters of the year (for me, it evokes this iconic one sheet). I asked MM about his process as I’m always curious to see the different directions that were considered en route to the final creative, especially for films that defy neat encapsulation. Below are eight never-before-seen comps MM created for De Humani Corporis Fabrica. They reveal the collaborative process between artist and distributor and the wide range of approaches possible with a project like this.
See more of Midnight Marauder's work on his website or Instagram. Big thanks to Midnight Marauder and our friends at Grasshopper Films.
